Peruvian Naturals has donated this month’s earnings pledge to cacao and coffee farmer, Gervasio. This is our first aid recipient in Ayacucho, the department which saw the worst of the violence in Peru’s 20 years of armed conflict. According to his Kiva profile:
Gervasio’s story
Gervasio is 30 years old. He lives with his wife and their 2 children in Kimbiri Alto, Ayacucho. Gervasio is an enterprising and hardworking man and very productive for society.
He is requesting a loan from Kiva to buy and sow cocoa and coffee. He is looking to increase his parcel of land and to better maintain it in order to have better productivity. Among other sources of income, he is a day laborer on other people’s land. He does this work at weekends along with his wife and in the farming season.
His desire is to buy agricultural land so he can have greater profits and improve his family’s quality of life.
A loan of $925 helps to buy cocoa and coffee.
This loan is special because it schedules repayment rates based on the harvest season to put less pressure on farmers’ families.
